Adorable Koala Joeys Begin Emerging from Pouches at Australia Zoo!

By Animals Correspondent
Australia Zoo is thrilled to announce the arrival of six adorable koala joeys, now beginning to peek out from their mothers’ pouches.
At just six to nine months old, these sweet joeys are the latest success in our ongoing koala breeding program.

Their arrival marks an important milestone in protecting one of Australia’s most iconic species.
Listed as endangered in 2022, koalas face a growing number of threats in the wild including habitat destruction, vehicle strikes, domestic pet attacks and disease.

Wildlife conservationist Terri Irwin said,
“Every joey born is a meaningful step forward for koala conservation. At Australia Zoo, we’re proud to contribute to the future of this iconic species. Each new arrival gives our guests a special chance to connect with koalas and be inspired to protect them.”
The joeys are beginning to slowly explore their habitat, often clinging closely to their mums as they get to know their surroundings. With their calm and cuddly nature, these little ones are already capturing the hearts of visitors to Australia Zoo.
“Conservation is at the core of everything we do here at Australia Zoo. We’re excited to welcome guests to meet our beautiful koalas, learn about the challenges they face in the wild, and how we can all play a part in helping them survive,” said Terri.
"At Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors, we are committed to protecting species like koalas through vital breeding programs, habitat preservation, and wildlife rehabilitation at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.
“Through Australia Zoo and our international charity Wildlife Warriors, we’re dedicated to helping all wildlife, from an individual animal to the entire species, by engaging in a breeding program for koalas, to conducting groundbreaking research on saltwater crocodiles and providing lifesaving care at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital,” said Terri.
