Amazing Ukulele Effort Raises Over £10,000 for Charity
By pupils age 9 and 10 at Heron's Moor Good News Room
Janet Williams visited Herons’ Moor Academy to speak to pupils about her career in journalism and the hobbies she enjoys in her spare time.
During her visit, Janet explained that she is a member of the Weston Ukulele Players, a group of musicians who perform to raise money for charity. She told pupils that when the group first began playing together, they never imagined how much money they would go on to raise.
Over the course of 2025, the group performed at numerous clubs, societies, care homes and community events, entertaining audiences with songs from the 1950s through to the 1980s.

Donations collected during these performances totalled an impressive £10,634.13.
The Weston Ukulele Players recently presented a cheque for £10,634.13 to Children's Hospice South West, which is based in Wraxall. The money was raised entirely through the generosity of those who attended and supported their performances.
Janet said: “I enjoy playing and we hope to reach £10,000 this year, if we can.”
