Budding Mary Berry, 14, wins national final

A Mary Berry of the future has scooped the top prize for Dish of the Day in a national cookery final.

Poppy, 14, of The King Alfred School Academy in Highbridge, Somerset, won the Rotary Young Chef 2023 National Final 'Dish of the Day’ in Alchester, UK.

Poppy has high hopes of a career in the food industry and is shining with awards and wins across the UK.

She also ecured herself a work experience role with The Olive Tree Restaurant in Bath, the only Michelin star restaurant in Bath having impressed the head chef at a competition.

Teacher Natasha King said: “We are all super proud of Poppy and with her achievements. Yet again, she has shone in a big competitions and shown just what talent and aspiration she has.

“She is eager to learn and always take on board feedback from judges to get ever better.

“She has a glittering career ahead of her.”

Principal Dan Milford said: “This is absolutely outstanding again from Poppy. Her food always looks and tastes out of this world and she demonstrates dedication and enthusiasm with every single dish she makes.”

The King Alfred School Academy is part of The Priory Learning Trust.
