Chester Choir Celebrates 25 Years with a Day of Music, Joy, and Community Spirit

By Community Correspondent
In celebration of their 25th anniversary, Chester’s beloved all-female choir, A Handbag of Harmonies, is preparing to surprise the city with a full day of heartfelt music and unforgettable moments on July 12th.
Celebrating Community Heroes
“The idea came about as it’s our 25th anniversary this year and the choir wanted to give something back to the community that has supported us for so long,” said organisers from the choir.
From carol singing to passers-by on The Rows to performing on the main stage at DevaFest, A Handbag of Harmonieshas spent the past 25 years uplifting audiences with music, joy, and a strong sense of connection.
Now, the choir is flipping the spotlight to shine on others — by delivering surprise "Choirgrams" to members of the community who deserve recognition.
“This is such a special year for us and we wanted to mark it by celebrating others,” said Musical Director Matt Baker.
“From a much-loved community dance teacher, to a young boy showing incredible courage through health challenges, to a couple celebrating a lifelong love story through decades of service, the stories behind each Choirgram are extremely moving. It really promises to be a day full of meaning and memories.”
More Than Just Music
With a joyful flower-power theme and a partnership with local florist Thistle and Thyme, the day will be filled with colour, laughter and heartfelt moments. Choir members will also take a celebratory ride on the Grosvenor Park Big Wheel — a moment of fun and photo ops for all involved.
To support the event, the choir will be selling limited edition Choirgram badges and holding raffles, with proceeds going toward buying flowers for each recipient.
Remaining funds will be donated to Arlo’s GoFundMe page: https://gofund.me/4e564fcd.
A Handbag of Harmonies is widely known for its bold performances, feel-good energy, and deep community spirit. Whether performing at festivals, leading flash mobs, or singing for local causes, the “Handbags,” as they’re affectionately called, bring music and joy to every corner of Chester.
