Jeffrey Archer inspired her school — now Poppy, 13, ranks his greatest novels
When bestselling author Jeffrey Archer visited Priory School in 2018 to launch its Good News Room, he shared writing tips and helped inspire a new generation of young reporters.
Now Poppy, 13, is putting her own journalistic skills to work by selecting her five favourite Archer novels — but could his latest book, Adam and Eve, make the list?
Tragically, the prolific writer who grew up in Somerset, Jeffery Archer, passed away on the 5th of October 2026.
Here are his top 5 books, as rated by Poppy at the Good News Post:
- Kane and Abel (1979) : about the rivalry between two men born on the same day - a polish immigrant and a wealthy Bostinian.
- Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less (1976) : a revenge story about four men who got scammed by a face stock promoter and hatch an elaborate plot to get their money back.
- Only Time Will Tell (2011) : the first book of the Clifton Chronicles saga about a bristolian dockworker’s son who unravels a huge family secret.
- A Prisoner of Birth (2008) : a modern retelling of the classic The Count of Monte Cristo
- First Among Equals (1984) : a political thriller about the high stakes of Parliament and who the new Prime Minister will be.
Those are the top five so far but could one of them be replaced by Archer’s posthumous release of Adam and Eve.
Archer’s new novel is set during armistice day 1918 and follows an Earl’s daughter and a shepherd's son and how their actions could change history forever.
