Good News centres launch in Malawi
A new Jill Dando Good News Centre has opened in Malawi
English teacher Sarah O’Gorman of Priory Community School Academy in Weston super Mare, England helped put the Centre in the southern Africa nation which is one of the poorest countries in Africa. The news centre is rich in community stories and culture. Now 17 young people, trained in basic journalism, have been operating their very own Jill Dando news station. The station is led by Leonard Masauli, who is a writer for “The Nation” new paper, but he started out as a community journalist like the new journalists he is teaching. Sara said: “This has given the other Jill Dando News Centres a huge global link and will give the opportunity for different stories and new subjects to be explored. “This will be extremely valuable to the JDNC (Jill Dando News Centre) and be a great asset to the ever growing JDNC community.”
