Good News for London: One Million Meals Delivered to Families in Need

By Jill Dando News
In a heartwarming milestone celebrated on World Hunger Day, The Caring Family Foundation and The Felix Project have announced the delivery of one million meals to families and children across London since launching their partnership in November 2024.
This extraordinary achievement has already reached more than 53,000 people and underscores the power of community, compassion, and action.
Volunteers, school staff, and local leaders have worked together to ensure that nutritious food gets to those who need it most—particularly during school holidays, when many children lose access to free school meals.

The Caring Family Foundation’s commitment to ending child hunger goes far beyond numbers.
With over 3.5 million meals delivered across the UK and Brazil, and more than £5.2 million in funds invested into grassroots initiatives, the Foundation’s reach is both global and deeply local.
From food deliveries to educational workshops, youth clubs, community marketplaces, and individual family support, the Foundation is addressing not just hunger but the root causes of food insecurity.
School at the Heart of the Community
Nowhere is the impact more evident than at Surrey Square Primary School in South London, where more than 80% of families face financial hardship.
For five years, the school has partnered with The Caring Family Foundation to provide children and their families with consistent access to healthy meals and community support.

Patricia Caring, co-founder of the Foundation, visited the school this week to distribute food in person and meet some of the families benefitting from the initiative.
“Reaching one million meals in under a year is a major step toward our mission of ensuring no child goes hungry,” said Caring. “We are committed to making nutritious food available year-round—especially during the school holidays when many families face their hardest times.”
Impact You Can Taste
Matt Morden, Head Teacher of Surrey Square, highlighted the day-to-day difference the partnership has made:
“A quarter of our families are in temporary accommodation, and many lack proper cooking facilities. With support from The Caring Family Foundation, we can offer weekly take-home meals and fresh produce. Children who eat well are better prepared to learn, grow, and succeed.”
Parent Kameir Phillips shared the impact from a family’s perspective:
“The Foundation funds our monthly food market and takeaway meals. It helps us save money and focus more on our children. It really makes a difference.”
One young pupil added a personal touch:
“The Caring Family Foundation helps us on Fridays at our youth club. My favourite is chicken and rice. We get proper vegetables and do fun stuff like drawing.”

To mark the occasion, two new branded delivery vans were unveiled during the school visit.
These vehicles will help extend meal deliveries across more than 100 London communities, allowing both organisations to respond swiftly to food insecurity.
“These vans are more than just vehicles—they are a lifeline,” said Patricia Caring.

Charlotte Hill OBE, CEO of The Felix Project, echoed the sentiment:
“Hitting the one million meals milestone with The Caring Family Foundation is incredible. Holidays are the toughest time for families who rely on school meals. These vans help us make sure no family is left behind.”
This milestone is part of the Foundation’s wider ‘Food from the Heart’ campaign, which delivers meals during school holidays and supports monthly community markets with fresh, nutritious food.
Their holistic approach is rooted in dignity and long-term empowerment—building a future where no child goes hungry.

As the summer holidays approach—with an estimated 645,000 UK children expected to face food insecurity—the Foundation’s work has never been more urgent.
