Health and Social Care Students Experience the Care Profession First Hand at St Georges Care Home

By Jill Dando News
Students from Priory Community School enjoyed a special trip to St Georges Care home in Worle, just a stone's throw from their school, to learn from the care profession and interact with residents there.

Icing cakes and strawberries were just the ticket as many residents enjoyed the afternoon games at Wimbledon or sat outside in the resident's garden.
Students, aged 14 and 15, got a tour of the home and learnt from the staff there first hand how things operate and what it takes to work in the care profession.

Both residents and youth engaged each other in conversation and saw the benefit of such a visit.
One student said:
'I'm thinking about going into care work as a career choice so this is a great opportunity' and another commented 'it's so sweet talking to the older generation and learning from their stories'.

There was a fond farewell and both St Georges Care Home and Priory Community School are keen to continue their relationship into the next academic year, offering more and more young people the opportunity to step into the community and offer their support.
