Light the Darkness: Watch, Reflect and Take Part Together

Light the Darkness is a national moment of remembrance held each year on Holocaust Memorial Day.

It honours the six million Jewish people murdered in the Holocaust and the millions more killed in subsequent genocides. By coming together to light a candle, we remember the victims, stand with survivors and their families, and reaffirm our shared commitment to challenge prejudice, hatred and discrimination in all its forms.

On Tuesday 27 January, people across the UK will once again come together to mark Holocaust Memorial Day by taking part in Light the Darkness — a powerful collective act of remembrance and solidarity.

At 8pm, candles will be lit in homes and communities across the country, while iconic buildings and landmarks shine purple, creating a shared national moment of reflection.

You can take part wherever you are.

From 7.50pm, join us online as we count down together to the national moment. A special countdown video will be available on the front page of our website, allowing everyone to pause, reflect and prepare.

Simply begin watching the video 10 minutes before 8pm, light a candle, and take part alongside thousands of others across the nation. As the countdown reaches zero, we will Light the Darkness together — united in remembrance, reflection and hope.

Each year, this simple act sends a powerful message: that we remember those whose lives were taken, that we listen to the voices of survivors, and that we stand together against prejudice and hatred today.

By taking part, you help create light in the darkness — together.
