Liverpool Children’s Boot Camp Coach Encourages Everyone to Walk and Talk!

By Community Correspondent
A Liverpool children’s fitness coach is urging the local community to lace up their walking shoes and join a special charity walk aimed at supporting older people in Liverpool and Sefton.
Neil Fogg, a former Police Officer and founder of Our City Academy, has organised a 20-mile Charity Walk from Southport to Liverpool on Sunday, 6th July 2025.

The walk aims to raise funds for Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton and promote awareness of the growing issue of loneliness among the elderly.
Fogg, who regularly works with local schools to promote physical and mental wellbeing through boot camps, said the idea was born from conversations with older adults he met while on the job.
"Seeing how they crave connection and are so happy just to ‘have a chat’ made me want to do more," he said. "Many times, we were called out to situations that turned out to be rooted in loneliness. That really stuck with me."
Our City Academy, the grassroots initiative Fogg leads, is staffed by experienced community members who believe in giving back.

Now, they are extending their support beyond the school gates to help the city’s ageing population.
The walk will begin at 9:00am (for a 9:30am start) at The Pier Restaurant near Funland in Southport, ending at the iconic Liver Buildings in Liverpool.

Participants are not expected to complete the full 20-mile route; Fogg encourages anyone to join in for part of the journey or support the cause by making a donation.
"Many charities like Age Concern are struggling to fund vital services," he said. "We can all do something—whether it’s walking a few kilometres, giving a small donation, or just sharing the word. Every little helps to keep these services going."
Funds raised from the event will go directly towards weekly activities that help combat isolation and promote mental and physical health among older adults in the region.
