A local running challenge is taking place in support of SUDC UK, in memory of Liam Shepherd, who tragically and unexpectedly died in his sleep in 2021.

Although Liam was very young, he made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He is remembered as a kind, thoughtful and intelligent child, with a gentle nature and a quiet confidence that drew people to him.

Hannah, a teacher at Liam's school said: "I was fortunate enough to teach Liam when he was in Year 5, and he is one of those pupils a teacher never forgets. He was caring beyond his years, always considerate of others, and a joy to have in the classroom. He had a calm presence and a sharp mind, and he made school a happier place simply by being there".

Liam’s death was caused by Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC), a devastating condition that is still not fully understood.

For families affected, the loss is sudden and life-changing, leaving parents with unanswered questions and unimaginable grief.

SUDC UK provides vital support to families like Liam’s, while also raising awareness and funding research into the condition.

Their work helps ensure that families are not left to cope with such loss alone.

This run is being done in memory of Liam, in support of his mum, Kim, and for every family affected by SUDC. It is a way to remember a much-loved child and to honour the impact he had in his short life.

Donations, however small, help SUDC UK continue their essential work and keep Liam’s memory alive. The family and organisers are deeply grateful for any support shown.
