As Bring Your Dog to Work Day approaches on 20 June, new research reveals that London is the top dog when it comes to pet-friendly workplaces, with more offices in the capital welcoming canine companions than anywhere else in the UK.

According to data from The Kennel Club, around two in five dog owners in Greater London say their workplace is open to dogs.

That’s 12% above the national average, and nearly a quarter of London offices have specific policies in place to support dog-friendly environments.

Outside the capital, the South West and East Midlands aren’t far behind, with 36% and 35% of dog owners respectively reporting dog-friendly workspaces.

But not all regions are as welcoming — in Yorkshire and the Humber, and the East of England, fewer than one in four workplaces are open to dogs.

With demand growing among workers — particularly younger ones — for pet-friendly policies, the findings reflect a broader shift in how we view the modern workplace.

Over half of dog owners nationwide (55%) say they’d be more likely to take a job that allowed them to bring their dog to work. That rises to nearly two-thirds (62%) of workers aged 25 to 34.

And it’s not just about perks.

Owners and employers alike report real benefits: better morale (60%), improved job satisfaction, a boost in productivity (57%), and an overall more positive working environment.

To support this growing trend, The Kennel Club’s ‘Open for Dogs’ campaign aims to help businesses welcome dogs responsibly, offering guidance and resources for both employers and dog owners.

“Welcoming dogs into the workplace can really lift spirits and help build a positive atmosphere,” says Charlotte McNamara, spokesperson for The Kennel Club. “When done right, it’s a win for everyone — owners, colleagues, businesses and, of course, the dogs.”
But she adds a reminder: “It’s important for owners to make sure their dog is ‘office-ready’ — well-trained, calm and comfortable. And it’s essential to be mindful of others, especially in shared spaces.”

To help make dog-friendly offices work for all, The Kennel Club recommends:

  • Respecting colleagues’ space and keeping dogs out of off-limits areas like kitchens and toilets
  • Ensuring dogs are toilet-trained and know basic commands
  • Bringing essentials like a lead, ID tag, treats, water bowl and a comfy bed
  • Making time for regular breaks and walks

With more businesses considering flexible and wellbeing-focused policies, it seems dogs in the office could become more common — and welcomed — across the UK.
