A new public-access Defibrillator and Emergency Bleed Kit has been officially launched at SandBay Fish & Chip Shop & Cosy Cafe, in Somerset, thanks to the generous support of the Dedman Family, who have dedicated the installation in loving memory of Roy Dedman.

The launch is part of the expanding Defib Legacy Programme, in collaboration with the Avon & Somerset Bleed Kit Partnership, aimed at making life-saving equipment more accessible to communities across Weston-super-Mare and beyond.

Installed by local firm AMS Electrical, the life-saving kit is now fully LIVE and Rescue-Ready, serving the residents, visitors, and businesses of Sand Bay.

The Dedman family, along with staff from the café and representatives from the community initiative Donate For Defib Weston-super-Mare, gathered at the location to mark the launch, remember Roy Dedman, and celebrate the powerful legacy now in place to help save lives.

“This is more than a defibrillator – it’s a legacy of love, resilience, and community care,” said Josh Bell, Project Lead of Donate For Defib.
“We are honoured to work alongside the Dedman Family, the team at SandBay Fish & Chip Shop & Cosy Cafe, and AMS Electrical to bring vital emergency equipment to this part of our coastline.”

To continue raising awareness and ensuring the community is prepared to use the equipment in an emergency, a CPR and Defibrillator Awareness Session will be held at the venue on 7th September, open to all members of the public.

This installation marks another key milestone in the Defib Legacy Programme, which is seeing defibrillators and emergency Bleed Kits installed across the region thanks to the support of families, businesses, and local partners.

“A lovely family and a wonderful legacy – Roy’s name now lives on as part of something that could one day help save a life,” added Josh.
