North East Fundraising Helps Deliver Vital Medical Supplies to Hospitals in Ukraine

Hospitals in Ukraine have received medical supplies and everyday essentials thanks to fundraising by The Salvation Army and supporters across the North East.

Sunderland Monkwearmouth Salvation Army has held regular fundraising lunches and coffee mornings since 2022, many of them organised by Ukrainian refugees who came to the UK after the war began.

Money raised has paid for supplies including dressings, pain relief medication, soap, socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste and shower gel.

The items have been packed and sent to hospitals in Ukraine for injured patients and vulnerable people.

The church, led by Majors David and Elizabeth McCaw-Aldworth, has supported Ukrainian families since they arrived in the region following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Refugee Support Co-ordinator and Translator Olena Myronova, who came to the UK in 2022, said:

"The Ukrainian community would like to express our heartfelt thanks to The Salvation Army church communities and their congregations across the North East for their continued generosity, compassion and support."

The fundraising events are continuing as the church works with the local Ukrainian community to provide aid for those affected by the war.
