North Somerset Poetry Trail Launched: A Coastal Journey Through Verse and Scenery

By Community Correspondent

A unique celebration of literature and landscape has arrived in North Somerset with the launch of the North Somerset Poetry Trail.

Officially inaugurated in the Town Square by the Mayor of Weston-super-Mare, Councillor Martin Williams, alongside Councillor Mike Solomon, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Open Spaces, the trail invites locals and visitors alike to explore the stunning coastline through the power of poetry.

Featuring eleven thoughtfully placed plaques showcasing works by local author Anthony Keyes, the trail offers a rich cultural experience set against the breathtaking backdrop of the North Somerset coast.

Notably, two of these poetic installations are situated within the breathtaking National Trust coastal areas, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and artistic expression.

The poems highlighted along the trail are all from "The Poetry Field," a compelling new book by local author Anthony Keyes.

Keyes' collection offers a broad spectrum of themes, ensuring a diverse and engaging experience for all who explore the trail. His work spans various subjects, from vivid imagery of specific locations and historical narratives to reflections on remembrance, the exhilaration of sport, the charm of the seaside, and even a new poem inspired by Iceland.

Keyes shared insights into his creative process, explaining that the poems in "The Poetry Field" are deeply influenced by a range of sounds and emotions.

The North Somerset Poetry Trail promises to be a captivating journey, seamlessly blending poetry with the scenic nature of The North Somerset coast.
