Oldmixon Primary Celebrated for Safety, Care and Strong Learning in Ofsted Report
By Schools Correspondent
Oldmixon Primary School, part of the Extend Learning Academies Network (ELAN), has shared the outcomes of its recent Ofsted inspection, confirming what families already know: this is a school where children feel safe, are welcomed as individuals, and are given the foundations to thrive.
The inspection on 6 January 2026 reflected the hard work, determination and heart that staff, pupils, and families bring to the Oldmixon community every day.
Safe, Caring and Well-Supported
Inspectors confirmed that safeguarding is effective and staff are quick to spot concerns and act with care. Most importantly, they found that pupils feel safe—a message that came through strongly from the children themselves.
Excellent Early Years
Early Years was graded a Strong Standard, with inspectors praising:
- Nurturing staff who build independence
- High-quality interactions that boost vocabulary
- A well-designed curriculum that prepares children for writing
- Precise, joyful early reading teaching
- Swift support for additional needs
Children were judged exceptionally well prepared for Year 1.
Inclusive and Supportive
Inclusion was also graded a Strong Standard. Inspectors highlighted:
- Accurate identification of learning barriers
- Strong pastoral support
- Effective use of pupil premium
- Positive relationships with families and agencies
- A shared belief that all pupils can succeed
Parents spoke highly of the school’s inclusive culture.
Strong Achievement
Pupils make strong progress across all key stages and achieve well in reading, writing, and maths—especially in mathematics and grammar. Disadvantaged pupils often outperform their peers nationally. “Overall, pupils are prepared well for the next stage of education.”
Kind Behaviour and Improving Attendance
Inspectors found a calm, orderly, and happy school. Pupils were polite and respectful, and classrooms ran smoothly. Attendance is rising thanks to close work with families, and Ofsted encouraged the school to continue pushing it even higher.
Ambitious Curriculum
The curriculum is well-sequenced and inclusive, with a strong focus on vocabulary, early support, and high-quality staff training. Year 1 provision has been strengthened to ensure a smooth transition from Early Years.
Effective Leadership
Leaders, governors, and trust staff make decisions rooted in pupils’ best interests. Staff told inspectors they feel valued and proud to work at the school.
Developing the Whole Child
Personal development is a strength, with pupils learning to stay safe, manage emotions, and embrace differences. They enjoy rich experiences in sport, music, camping, and the arts. Pupils spoke with enthusiasm about traditions like the “Friday banquet” and “book award” assemblies, and inspectors were impressed by how confidently they represent the school in local events.
Headteacher Corinna Rundle-Crowe said:
“This report reflects the warmth, ambition and inclusivity of our school community. We are proud of our children every single day, and it is wonderful to see their efforts—and those of our staff and families—recognised in this way. We remain committed to supporting every child to flourish academically, socially and emotionally.”
