Spice, Steam, and Teamwork: Emerge Cookery School Opens New Kitchen in Camberwell

Emerge Cookery School is delighted to announce the opening of their newly refurbished catering kitchen in Camberwell, south London.

The bright and welcoming premises, located between Camberwell and Walworth, comfortably accommodates up to 30 people for public and private classes.

Co-founders, Shannon McAuliffe and Ruby Hazel created Emerge Cookery School at the beginning of 2024 after working in catering and hospitality in numerous locations around the world.

They shared a desire to make global cuisines accessible for anyone to cook.

Since then, they have outgrown their original home on the Hackney Road and the school in Camberwell signals an exciting new chapter.

They offer a wide selection of classes, ranging from making sushi and dim sum to exploring authentic Mexican and Indian dishes. All equipment and ingredients are provided; all attendees need to bring is their willingness to learn new skills.

Emerge Cookery School is committed to supporting and improving the local community.

They are involved with Plan Zheroes, a charity fighting food waste and poverty and will be contributing to the Feed the 500 event in Borough Market on Wednesday 17 September.

Shannon McAuliffe, Director of Operations, said:

“I am so excited to welcome people to our fantastic new kitchen. It is the perfect space for people to learn how to cook new dishes, meet new people and have fun with their friends or work colleagues. We’ve seen a rising demand, particularly from corporate clients, whose employees want to learn how to prepare tasty, nutritious and interesting dishes.

"Organising team building classes with us, not only strengthens relationships at work, but it also underpins their wellbeing strategies and gives their employees the skills to live healthier lives.”

Ruby Hazel, Creative Director, said:

“My love of food started at a young age, learning from my Indian grandmother. She taught me traditional Indian techniques as well as spice profiling, which started my journey into the food industry.

"Setting up Emerge Cookery School was about passing on this love and these skills and our new premises in Camberwell allows us to do just that.”
