Tesco is strengthening its support for families with premature babies by introducing free F&F Premature Sleepsuits, specially designed for babies weighing 3lbs and 4lbs.

From this week, parents and carers can pick up a complimentary three-pack of the sleepsuits from Tesco Pharmacies during opening hours.

Developed in partnership with Pampers, the sleepsuits are available at more than 350 participating pharmacies nationwide, making Tesco the only UK supermarket currently offering free clothing in these sizes.

The new sleepsuits build on Tesco’s existing collaboration with Pampers, which already provides free Pampers Preemie Protection nappies to families of premature babies across the UK.

Together, the initiatives aim to offer practical help during the early days of caring for a baby born prematurely.

Orsolya Szeman, Tesco Senior Buying Manager for Baby, said:

“We understand how challenging the early days of parenthood can be, particularly when a baby arrives earlier than expected. By expanding our offer to include free F&F Premature Sleepsuits alongside Pampers Preemie Protection nappies, we hope to give families some extra reassurance and support at a critical time.”

The idea for the sleepsuits was inspired by the success of the free nappy scheme and a desire to do more for parents during early parenthood.

Designed with guidance from Pampers, the F&F Premature Sleepsuits focus on comfort, practicality and protecting delicate skin.

Jasveen Saidha, F&F Lead Buying Manager for Baby, said:

“These sleepsuits have been created with real care and attention, from the choice of fabric to the design details that make dressing and feeding easier. Our aim is to provide comfort for babies born early and peace of mind for parents when they need it most.”

The sleepsuits are available when parents or carers collect their first pack of free nappies from Tesco Pharmacy.

Around one in 13 babies in the UK is born prematurely, and premature babies have skin that can be up to twice as thin as that of full-term babies, making it especially sensitive. F&F’s design team developed the sleepsuits specifically for babies weighing 3lbs and 4lbs, with features tailored to their needs.

Key design features include:

  • Soft rip-tape fastenings instead of poppers to reduce irritation and allow space for medical lines
  • No internal seams or labels for added comfort
  • A lay-flat design that opens fully to make dressing easier
  • 100% cotton fabric suitable for hospital-grade 90°C washing and tumble drying

The initiative is part of Tesco’s wider commitment to supporting parents and carers, alongside its range of own-brand and branded baby essentials. In 2024, Tesco also donated premature baby clothing directly to NHS neonatal units across the UK.
