New season of online peer sessions will offer safe spaces for musicians and industry workers facing mounting emotional pressures.

Tonic Music has announced a new season of free Peer Support Groups aimed at providing specialist mental health support to musicians and those working across the UK music industry.

The weekly online groups, running from January to May 2026, will offer six 90-minute sessions for up to 12 people, giving participants a safe place for connection, reflection and recovery.

The programme is facilitated by experienced clinicians including Dr Adam Ficek, Jade Hughes, Dr Claire Bloxsom and Sarah Williams.

Each group is designed to address the unique emotional pressures faced within the music world.

Founder and CEO Steph Langan said: “These peer groups are invaluable because they offer something the music industry desperately needs – safe, specialist spaces where people can be heard, understood and supported. In a landscape that’s increasingly isolating – with venue closures, streaming pressures, and the emotional toll of constant change – these sessions are a lifeline.”

Pressures on the Music Community

Although music is often a source of comfort, Tonic Music highlights how the current state of the industry can be damaging to mental wellbeing. Grassroots venue closures, the dominance of streaming, international touring restrictions and the rapid rise of AI are among the factors placing strain on musicians and music workers.

Men’s Sheds Back England’s First Men’s Health Strategy
UKMSA welcomes England’s first Men’s Health Strategy, recognising community-led Sheds as vital spaces supporting men’s wellbeing and connection.

Research from over 1,500 Tonic programme participants reveals the scale of the challenge:

  • 25% have experienced suicidal thoughts
  • 19% have attempted suicide
  • 37% have self-harmed
  • 85% have experienced anxiety
  • 27% have struggled with substance use
  • 10% live with a severe and enduring mental health disorder

Tonic says the new Peer Support Groups aim to offer a vital lifeline at a time when emotional pressures are rising across the sector.
