Students at Worle Community School Academy were honoured for their academic achievements, outstanding character and contributions to school life at a spectacular Oscar-style ceremony at Weston-super-Mare’s Winter Gardens.

The glamorous evening brought together students, proud families, carers, staff and special guests to recognise those who go the extra mile, both inside and outside the classroom.

Guests were also treated to impressive musical and vocal performances by talented students, adding to a night filled with celebration, pride and inspiration.

One of the evening’s highlights was the presentation of the Principal’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to School Life (PROD Award).

The award went to Oscar and Ola, recognising their contributions to the school community.

Another student celebrating success was Oliver Masley, 16, who received the Jill Dando News Journalist of the Year award and the Community Council Governors Award.

The awards were presented by special guests including Nigel Dando, the older brother of much-loved broadcaster Jill Dando, and John Crockford-Hawley, a twice-former Mayor of Weston-super-Mare.

Headteacher Mark Tidman said the evening was an opportunity to celebrate students’ achievements alongside the people who support them.

“We are thrilled and so proud of all our students who go the extra mile with hard work, excellence and character. This was a chance to celebrate with their families and carers,” he said.

Known for its caring ethos, high academic standards and wide range of enrichment opportunities, Worle Community School Academy encourages students to develop their talents, build confidence and make the most of opportunities both in and beyond the classroom.

The school is also the founding home of the Jill Dando News Centre, launched in 2016 to honour the legacy of Jill Dando, a former Worle pupil and much-loved broadcaster.
