For 5–21-year-olds, inspired by the kind and brilliant legacy of Jill Dando, we train young reporters in schools to focus on the positive.

Boosting literacy, aspiration and changing lives since 2011 — we are now expanding across the UK.

Good News Rooms also equip young people with digital skills, alongside other essential life skills, building their confidence, communication abilities, and mental wellbeing.”

Their stories all go on the Good News Post and often to the wider media. Their stories have been featured by the a wide variety of newspapers and BBC, ITV and CBS News in America.

Children are trained by professional journalists and some as young as 9 have interviewed a Prime Minister three times, Mr Speaker four times and countless others.

All young reporters in schools become part of the Jill Dando News team which have bases in the UK and Malawi, Africa. There are plans to take Good News Rooms all over the world.

OUR JOURNEY SO FAR

It all began in 2011 when our founder, award-winning journalist Shane Dean launched the first Good News Room in the headteacher’s office at Priory School, UK - supported by news journalists and editors in the media.

It was followed by a video by Sir Richard Branson to encourage the 1250 students. This marked the start of the Good News Movement training up young people to positive journalism, followed by The Good News Post in 2016—a platform to share children’s positive stories with the world.

In 2017, Jill Dando News was launched at Worle School in memory of the legendary BBC presenter Jill Dando.

Jill’s kindness, positivity, and journalistic brilliance became the model for this global initiative, empowering young people to think positively, share good news and develop their storytelling skills.

Since then, The Good News Post has grown into a UK-based global good news newspaper.

News journalists and editors including on the BBC, ITV, Sky News, CBS News from America and others have supported the mission since the start giving tips and training.

Since 2017 the project has had the support of two mental health CEOs Wendy Griffin and Dawn Carey - ensuring it is good for mental wellbeing and putting people first.

The project has seen exclusive world interviews with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Mr Speaker and backing by two prime ministers, Sir Richard Branson, leading journalists, and countless others.

CBS News teams from New York, America visit Priory School where the Good News Revolution project all began to film our Disabilities Editor and patron Ellise, 23, who despite having Cerebral Palsy is a flying high as a journalist and motivational speaker
