Windwhistle Primary School has been chosen by the British Council to take part in the prestigious Schools Across the Ocean 2026 Programme, a collaborative initiative linking schools in the UK and Brazil to strengthen climate literacy, resilience, and creativity among young learners.

The programme, supported by the University of Exeter, encourages pupils to explore the wonders of our oceans and the impacts of climate change through storytelling, art, poetry, and film.

By engaging in creative international exchanges, children are inspired to become confident, climate-literate changemakers with a global outlook.

As part of the initiative, Year 5, Windwhistle Primary will be partnered with a school in Brazil, offering pupils a unique opportunity to learn, connect, and share experiences across cultures.

This collaboration will not only broaden their understanding of environmental challenges but also foster creativity and personal resilience.

Mr. Lox, Year 1 teacher at Windwhistle Primary, applied for the programme and has welcomed the announcement, noting the exciting opportunities it will bring for pupils.

Windwhistle Primary are part of the Extend Learning Academies Network (ELAN) alongside nine other North Somerset schools and nurseries. ELAN expressed pride in the school’s selection.

ELAN schools—Banwell, Bournville, Locking, Oldmixon, Mead Vale, Mendip Green, Milton Park, Walliscote, and Windwhistle—share a commitment to nurturing creativity, resilience, and global citizenship among their pupils.
