Worle Community School Raises Nearly £1,000 for Weston Hospicecare

Big-hearted students and staff at Worle Community School Academy (WCSA) in Weston-super-Mare have come together to raise a nearly £1000 for local charity Weston Hospicecare, helping to support vital end-of-life care for patients and families across the area.
The Somerset school hosted a series of fundraising activities, including hot chocolate events, raffles and other attractions, which proved popular with both students and staff.
They also invited visitors to their latest student-led performance of Annie to donate for refreshments which brought in several hundred pounds.
The initiative reflects WCSA’s ongoing commitment to community involvement, with the school regularly organising events throughout the year to support local causes.
Business Manager Amy Bignell praised the school community for their enthusiasm and generosity.
She said: "Supporting Weston Hospicecare isn't just a school project for us; along with many of our staff, I have seen their incredible work up close.
“Seeing our school community get behind a cause that provides such vital dignity and comfort to our local families has been an absolute highlight of the year."
Weston Hospicecare provides specialist palliative care to people with life-limiting illnesses, offering support to patients and their loved ones at no cost. However, the charity relies heavily on fundraising to continue its work.
In a letter to the school, Lucie Antoine, Community Fundraiser for Weston Hospicecare, highlighted the importance of the donation.
She wrote: “As you may know, it costs over £6 million each year to run our hospice and under 20 per cent of our overall income is provided by the government. This is why your contribution is so crucial to us — our care services are only made possible by your support. Please pass on a massive thanks to everyone involved in making this fundraiser possible.
“Your contribution is helping us to continue to provide our care indefinitely, completely free of charge, during what can be such a difficult time for patients and their families. On behalf of our local community, thank you for supporting Weston Hospicecare.”
