Zookeeper Completes Unique Fundraiser to Help Rescue Tiger Find Forever Home

By Animals Correspondent
Known for her non-stop chatter and energy, Big Cat keeper Emily De Pasquale Wood faced her biggest challenge yet…being silent for an entire day.
Emily, who works on the Carnivore section at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, a Zoo and conservation charity in North Somerset, completed a Sponsored Silence during her 8am to 5pm shift on Wednesday 30th July.

The challenge was part of a fundraiser to support the Zoo’s Rescue Tiger Appeal.
At the heart of the campaign is Aqua, a tiger rescued from horrific conditions in 2019.
Aqua was discovered by animal rescue charity AAP in the back of a lorry on the Poland-Belarus border. While his fellow rescued tigers have since found permanent homes, Aqua is still waiting for his.
Now, Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm has stepped forward to offer Aqua a forever home.
The Zoo is working to raise £175,000 to build Aqua a spacious, enriching enclosure that meets his complex needs and gives him the second chance he deserves.

So far, Emily has raised over £800 which will go towards the Rescue Tiger Appeal.
“For anybody who knows me, I am one chatterbox! I constantly sing, dance, laugh and will talk to anybody and everybody. My family, friends and colleagues often describe me as the one who is constantly chatting!” said Emily De Pasquale Wood.
“Myself and the rest of the Carnivore team are excited to welcome Aqua to the Zoo and are thrilled to provide him with a long-enriching life here at the Zoo, and help raise awareness of not only the illegal trafficking of tigers, but their conservation in the wild.”
Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm is home to over 100 species and is a registered conservation charity committed to protecting vulnerable animals and inspiring the next generation of conservationists.
The Rescue Tiger Appeal is part of the Zoo’s wider mission to highlight the challenges facing tigers in captivity and in the wild, while giving Aqua the specialist care he needs to thrive.
