Bridgwater students are getting a unique opportunity to train as journalists and photojournalists – learning from professionals who have spent decades telling stories.

Students at inspirational Chilton Trinity School have been running their Good News Room for nine months, finding, writing and photographing positive stories about the people and achievements across their school and community.

And now they are getting top photography tips from one of Bridgwater’s best-known photographers – Jeff Searle, who has taken around one million photographs during a 35-year career.

Jeff was also behind the camera when Chilton Trinity moved into its £23 million state-of-the-art school building in 2013.

Former student Pippa Whitfield - a successful business leader across the UK - was also back to be interviewed by the Good News Room students.

Chilton Trinity headteacher Kathryn Deady said: “We are delighted to be hosting a Good News Room. The students are incredibly enthusiastic and are really enjoying finding and writing their stories.”

Teacher Jasmine Honour said: “Our students have been magnificent during the pilot of this Good News Room. They also enjoyed interviewing Jeff Searle and having the experience of taking their own news style photos.”

In their Good News Room, students are developing literacy, confidence, communication, digital and journalism skills while shining a spotlight on the brilliant things happening across their school and community.
