Bristol Airport’s Local Community Fund and Diamond Fund has awarded £29,000 to 16 local charities and community groups across North Somerset and South Bristol at its first meeting this year.

In total, 16 charities and not-for-profit organisations across North Somerset and South Bristol have received significant financial support from Bristol Airport’s Local Community Fund and Diamond Fund, following the latest round of funding at March’s Committee Meeting, with grants ranging from £500 to £12,000.

This includes funding for new equipment for Felton Volunteer Litter Pickers, a solar panel project for Winscombe Community Association, hall
improvements for the Compton Martin Parochial Church Council, travel subsidies for educational sessions at FarmLink Education Ltd in Wrington and also charitable contributions to Hope’s Place and the Baby Bank Network.

Mark Payne, Chair Winscombe Community Association (WCA), said:

“We are very grateful to Bristol Airport who have made a substantial contribution to the cost of solar panels for our new build community centre in Winscombe. We have always aimed to make the building as sustainable as we can, both environmentally and economically.
"The grant will enable us to go beyond our planning requirements and fill the south facing roof with panels, reducing our impact on the environment and our running costs.
"The new centre is due to be completed by November 2025 and will be a fantastic welcoming and inclusive venue for all in the local area, for generations to come.”

The Airport Environmental and Amenity Improvement Fund (known as the Bristol Airport Local Community Fund) has been established to invest in a range of local projects which benefit the local community and the environment.

Its main purpose is to mitigate the environmental impacts of the Airport’s operations and give something back to the surrounding communities. It reflects the aim to develop Bristol Airport in a sustainable way, respectful of the local community and the environment.

The Local Community Fund has a set criteria relating to noise mitigation, transport improvements and biodiversity projects.

Each year, Bristol Airport will contribute £100,000 to the Bristol Airport Local Community Fund.

Recently all the committee members agreed to raise the threshold for the Local Community Fund from £8,000 to £12,000, to help support community groups in the local area.

The Fund’s Management Committee meets on a quarterly basis and includes
representatives from both the Airport and North Somerset Council and is independently chaired.

Meanwhile, the Diamond Fund supports projects in the local area which do not meet the criteria for the Local Community Fund.
