Cartwheeling for a Cure: Mum Defies Cancer with Fundraising Challenge
By Charities Correspondent
A mum who was told she might not live to see Christmas is now cartwheeling her way around the world — and raising thousands for cancer research.
Lucy Musgrave, 58, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in 2021 — an aggressive cancer with a survival rate of just 20%.
Doctors warned she needed urgent treatment. What followed was six months of gruelling hospital care, isolation, and a further year of recovery.
But in an incredible twist, Lucy — who had a stem cell donor lined up — didn’t need a transplant and is now in remission.
Determined to give back, she began doing daily cartwheels on New Year’s Day 2023 — and hasn’t stopped since.

From hospital survivor to global fundraiser, Lucy has taken her cartwheels worldwide, sharing her journey online and raising vital funds for Leukaemia UK.

Her campaign, Cartwheel for a Cure, launched in 2025 with a £200,000 target — and has already hit an amazing £100,000.
Now she’s calling on the public to join in, with schools, communities and families all encouraged to take part in National Cartwheel Day on 30 June.

Her message is simple: keep moving, stay positive — and help save lives.
