Children’s Youth Dance returned to the annual Luna New Year celebrations at the Wai Yee Hong supermarket in Bristol, UK, helping the community see in the year of the snake.
This is the 7th time that Clevedon School dancers have supported the event and in recognition of their involvement the supermarket sponsored the dancers with new outfits and traditional props of fans and chopsticks.
Selina Li, organiser of the event said: “The lion dance is a tradition and we have to do it every year to bless our business.
“We have now turned it into a charity community event and it means so much to us that so many people attend.
“We really love the community atmosphere and the traditions we are able to pass on to our children and the wider community.
Clevedon Youth Dance have been such a core act at our event.
We love having them around during the day and they bring so much happiness to the stage.
For young children to produce such incredible work and to be able to show our community how amazing this generation is, is inspiring. We are so very grateful for all the support Debbie and the team have given the dancers to be able to attend our event every year.”
The 17 strong team of dancer from CYD performed 4 times during the day-long event and have been training hard 3 times a week for the last few months.

The dance specially created for the event was choreographed by four members of CYD: Emily, Libby, Brooke and Evie.
They said: “We feel honoured to have had the opportunity to choreograph this year’s Chinese New Year dance.
This is a new experience, and we have had a lot of fun researching the culture and how to use the props.
We were delighted with the compliments at the event and look forward to performing again next year.”
Community engagement and student leadership are central to the ethos of the performing arts at Clevedon School.
Head of Performing Arts, Debbie Morgan said: “It is incredible to have so many opportunities to represent Clevedon School in the community.
Our support of the event at the Wai Yee Hong supermarket is one of our longest standing opportunities and one we look forward to every year. We thank them for their incredible gifts.”
CYD will also perform at the Bristol Museum event on Saturday 8th February.
