Clevedon School Helps Launch Interactive Easter Statue Trail Across Town

By Schools Correspondent

Families of Clevedon School are being given advance notice of a new interactive statue trail set to appear across Clevedon this Easter, ahead of wider media coverage expected later today.

The initiative, part-funded by the school, is described as a cognitively challenging, interactive attraction in the style of Wallace and Gromit.

The project has been developed in collaboration with the Foundation for Outdoor Ornamental Learning, a specialist group focused on strengthening links between schools and their communities.

The £250,000 scheme has also received support from The National Slotto.

Opening this morning, the trail features a series of specially commissioned statues of Clevedon School staff, placed at key locations throughout the town.

Each statue celebrates a member of staff—past or present—and highlights the values they have contributed to the school over time. Some of those featured may be familiar to current and former students.

Among the installations, Mr Kent can be found by the Bandstand, Miss Norman is located on Salthouse Fields, Mr Court is positioned on the seafront, and Mr Smith appears in Alexandra Park.

Organisers hope that placing these figures throughout the community will allow their influence to extend beyond the classroom, while also attracting visitors to Clevedon during the Easter period.

Visitors to the trail can take part in interactive challenges at each statue.

By scanning QR codes, participants unlock personalised activities tailored to whether they are a student, a Clevedon School family member, or part of the wider community. Successful completion of challenges will automatically award House points contributing to the school’s House Championship—meaning participation over the Easter holidays could impact the final outcome.

Those not connected to the school can still get involved by donating their earned House points to a House of their choice, with Heads of House providing short videos explaining why their House should benefit.

Co-creator Daryl F Lapis Jnr explained the inspiration behind the project:

“The idea was inspired by the cardboard cutouts of police officers that are placed in some shops. This bespoke installation is a thought-provoking interactive installation featuring works by our finest who have captured both the individual but also the essence of learning.”

The school has expressed enthusiasm for the project, describing it as a co-constructed and funded initiative that aligns with its goals around community engagement, collaboration, and cognitive challenge.

Families and visitors are encouraged to explore as many statues as possible during the Easter holiday and share their feedback via the school’s dedicated email channel. cstrail@clevedonschool.org.uk
