At the start of the year, the University of Bristol School of Education welcomed 50 student leaders from Clevedon School for an inspiring day of learning and creativity.

We were excited to discover the concept of craftivism — using craft as a form of activism — and how we could help make a difference to the planet by upcycling plastic waste.

We began the day by exploring ways we can have a positive impact on the world.

This felt important to us, especially when the news often feels overwhelmingly negative. It was empowering to realise that even small actions can help create change.

We learnt a lot, made new friends, and created activism artefacts in the form of puppets. We plan to use these to spread the message about recycling and the importance of avoiding single-use plastics.

This experience reminded us that we all need to be more mindful of the planet and the resources we use. Together, we can help build a more sustainable future.
