Doctor and UK Brain Expert-Turned-Musician Calls for Global Rethink out of America with Song Released on Eve of Donald Trump State Visit

Paediatric neurologist Dr Andrew Curran releases a bold new single blending neuroscience and soul, calling on America’s leaders to choose healing over harm.
When Donald Trump visits the UK this September, retired paediatric neurologist Dr Andrew Curran won’t be outside protesting with banners—he’ll be offering a song released across the airwaves.
The 67-year-old expert in brain development, who spent four decades helping children recover from brain injuries, is now channelling his insight through music.
His band The Promise has just released a new track from their upcoming album—timed intentionally, but not politically, with Trump’s visit.
“This isn’t a song against one man and it is nothing to do with politics,” says Curran.
“It’s a call to all leaders—past, present, and future—across America. I’ve had high hopes for all of them, and I’ve been disappointed by all of them.
“America has been at war or involved in conflicts for 224 of its 247 years,” he says.
“Its arms industry made $238 billion last year. This song is in protest of those facts—and a plea to change course.”
Curran’s aim isn’t to divide, but to inspire.
Drawing from his decades as a clinician and lecturer on brain injury, neuroplasticity, and emotional regulation, he believes we’re at a crossroads—and music may help us find the courage to choose a different way.
Curran has long been at the forefront of understanding how the human brain responds to emotion, rhythm, and connection.
“Music lights up everything—language, memory, empathy, movement. It bypasses fear and gets straight to feeling.”
His show, The Little Show of Big Stuff about the Brain, blends immersive neuroscience with original live music.
Part masterclass, part concert, part collective therapy, his shows offer more than education—they’re designed to be emotionally transformative.
“You don’t need fixing. You need reminding,” says Curran. “That you are whole. That you can change. That joy and peace are your natural state.”
Dr Curran is already known in the education world for his best-selling book The Little Book of Big Stuff About the Brain, used by thousands of teachers and parents to better support young people. He’s trained heads, advised schools, and worked at the cutting edge of clinical neurology thereby influencing tens of thousands of people.
Andrew added: “This needs to be a Martin Luther King moment for the planet,” he says.
“Not just anti-racism, but pro-kindness. Not just political change, but emotional change. A new movement to be kind to all people, all backgrounds, all nations—and to ourselves.”
Curran’s new album, written with his band The Promise, is set for release this autumn, with live UK events already underway.
“We don’t need more noise. We need more music. Music that heals. Music that frees. Music that dares to believe we can do better—not just out there in the world, but in here, inside ourselves.”
