Five M&S Douglas Legends Rack Up 150+ Years Between Them!
By Community Correspondent
Five incredible M&S Douglas colleagues are celebrating a jaw-dropping 150+ years of combined service — and they’ve got the stories, laughs, and memories to prove it!
Carole Caley, Mandy Powell, Mary Leaver, Cherry Bradley, and Wendy Ross have seen it all: the move to the current store in 1997, a major extension in 2002, and the latest store renewal ahead of the fully transformed Douglas store opening in spring 2026.
Whether leading charity events, mentoring new team members, or just sharing a laugh across the store, these five have been at the heart of M&S Douglas for decades.
Carole Caley, reflecting on her 28 years:
“Every day brings something new, and the variety of roles I’ve had has kept me refreshed and motivated… The people here make all the difference, and I’ve made lifelong friends along the way… As Wendy and I get ready to celebrate this next chapter together at our retirement party, it’s lovely to look back on the memories we’ve made over the years and the wonderful people who’ve made M&S feel like home.”
Mandy Powell, 29 years strong:
“I started my career here alongside Caroline, who is now our store manager… Over my time at M&S, I’ve worked in every section of the store, and have now served as a Safety Officer for over 20 years… The supportive environment, the friendships I’ve made, and the chance to be part of such a vibrant team make every day rewarding.”
Mary Leaver, 37 years:
“I’ve enjoyed seeing how M&S has evolved to meet the needs of customers… What stands out most is the camaraderie and support I’ve found here. I feel a real sense of pride in our store… The positive culture and encouragement from the team make every day special.”
Cherry Bradley, 30 years:
“I’m very proud of my 30 years of working at M&S… One thing that has never changed is how nice the staff are… In all honesty, every day at M&S is a positive one. I would recommend it to anyone.”
Wendy Ross, 36 years, soon to retire:
“It’s hard to believe I’ve been here that long… We have a great team, and I’ve made so many good friends. It’s like a proper community here, a real family… I’m looking forward to the next chapter, but I plan to come back as a customer — especially for the M&S food selection — and I’m excited for a joint leaving party with Carole. That’ll be a great way to close this chapter.”
Store Manager Caroline Brand added:
“It’s truly inspiring to celebrate these five incredible colleagues… This store would not be the same without any of them and we are so happy to be marking this wonderful achievement. Massive congratulations to you all from everyone on the team — here's to many more years!”
