Football Foundation Response to Government's Long-Term Boost for Women's and Girl's Football

Responding to the Government's announcement of to delivering a decade of change for women's and girls’ sport, Football Foundation CEO Robert Sullivan said:
“The Lionesses have done it… again! This isn’t just a victory for the players, but for everyone watching them who’s been inspired to laced up their boots.
“Over the 25 years since the Football Foundation’s creation, the women’s and girls’ game has gone from strength to strength. But we know there’s still much left to do. That’s why we’re delighted to see the Government’s commitment to delivering a decade of change for women's and girls’ sport ahead of the 2035 World Cup.
“Combined with the support we receive from our other funding partners – the Premier League and The FA – the Football Foundation is ready to deliver the grassroots facilities communities up and down the country need and deserve.
“As well as opening up new facilities named after our trail-brazing Lionesses, we’re committed to ensuring equal access across all the facilities we fund, including through guaranteeing peak usage slots for women and girls. We’ll also soon be launching a new funding scheme focussed specifically at creating welcoming, safe and accessible facilities for women and girls at existing grassroots sports sites.
“Whether your dream is to represent England or you just want to enjoy the game with your friends, the Football Foundation is working to ensure everyone has a great place to play.”
Further information on the funding scheme mentioned above will be announced in the coming weeks.
