From Two Ponies to a Nature Revolution: 20 Years of Wildlife Wins
By Nature Correspondent
What started with two ponies in a Northumberland forest has grown into a nationwide wildlife success story.
Back in 2006, two Exmoor foals nicknamed Puddles and Prancer were released into Kielder Forest to help restore natural habitats.
Now, 20 years on, that small project has turned into a huge conservation movement.
The Wildlife Trusts are celebrating two decades of work made possible by £31 million raised by Postcode Lottery players — funding projects across the UK to protect nature and bring people closer to it.

From reintroducing species and restoring habitats to helping communities connect with the outdoors, the impact has been felt nationwide.
Craig Bennett said:
“Our strong partnership with the Postcode Lottery has helped us take on the climate challenge… every project adds up to a mission to protect our natural world.”
Laura Chow added:
“Our players know charities like The Wildlife Trusts are a force for good… this work is crucial for the future and incredibly inspiring.”
From schoolchildren discovering nature for the first time to major conservation breakthroughs, organisers say the achievements over the past two decades are just the beginning.
