Good News Flashback: Highlights from Our Global Good News Room Project: 2019 the day Boris Johnson visited
Good News Room Flashback report - the day we interviewed soon-to-be Prime Minister Boris Johnson along with Sky News at our school

Since 2011, our Good News Newsrooms have empowered young journalists to break inspiring stories, interview public figures, and share uplifting news across their communities.

As we continue expanding worldwide, we’re looking back at some of the most memorable moments from our students—showcasing the power of good news in action.

Here from 2019 is an exclusive report at the time by Good News Room Student Journalists at King Alfred School Academy.

Former journalist Boris met student reporters aged 9 to 15 from the Jill Dando Good News Room at The King Alfred School Academy in Somerset, UK.

These young journalists, part of the Good News Newsroom movement, exclusively broke the story of Boris’ visit, marking another milestone in their growing media careers.

Jill Dando, an award-winning journalist in the 1980s and ’90s, was tragically killed in April 1999.

Today, students at JDNC—mentored by her brother Nigel and professional journalists—continue her legacy by publishing hundreds of uplifting stories that inspire their communities.

Jacob Kemp, 15, who aspired at the time to be a Political or Royal Correspondent, reflected on the experience after the day.

He said: “As young journalists at JDNC, we were honoured to meet a candidate for Prime Minister! From presenters to politicians, we’ve interviewed many public figures, but this was truly a day to remember.”

These young reporters don’t just write stories—they see them published in mainstream media, on social platforms, and in The Post, their own newspaper, which they often proudly deliver to their old primary schools.
