Journalist Janet Williams Visits Herons’ Moor Academy (By Sophia, Amelia and Zuzanna)

Janet Williams, a journalist, visited Herons’ Moor Academy to speak to Year 5 and Year 6 pupils about journalism and how it has changed over time.
During her training, there were very few women studying journalism, and it was rare to see a female journalist. However, now in 2026, it is less common to see male journalists.
While working as a journalist, Janet was inspired by many of the people she met, because she believes that everyone has a story worth telling.
She has even interviewed some famous people and worked with the renowned journalist Jill Dando.
Over the years, Janet has seen many changes in journalism. For example, there were no computers or laptops—only typewriters and writing on paper.
Her visit gave the pupils an insight into the world of journalism and showed them how exciting and creative the job can be.
