Two Somerset filmmakers are celebrating a milestone year in business by launching a new networking venue in Worle

Co-founders of River Axe Media, Xander Wild and Ryan Whitehead are celebrating their first year in business and are now bringing business owners together to encourage the local business community and share the journey.

They will host a connection and collaboration evening for businesses looking to grow and scale their marketing and promotional efforts at The Summerhouse Pub on Thursday at 6.30pm in Weston-super-Mare.

All are welcome. Attendees can purchase tickets here: https://bit.ly/RAN_IRL_FEB_CandC

The venue sits just seconds from Worle railway station and minutes from the M5 motorway and aims to be a fun, thriving and encouraging place for business owners of all types to meet.

Based in Somerset, the company officially launched in 2025 and has since experienced a remarkable first year, working with dozens of clients and contributing to projects recognised across the UK.

River Axe Media represents a unique creative partnership between two very different filmmaking traditions.

Wild brings experience as a British digital content creator, while Whitehead contributes his background as an American long-form documentary filmmaker. Their combined approach blends fast-moving digital storytelling with cinematic, story-led production.

“Our passion is filmmaking in every sense,” said the founders. “From the first idea through to the finished film, we love the problem-solving, the creativity, and the opportunity to tell meaningful stories.”

Their first year has included filming and live-streaming a gospel choir, documenting a charity cyclist travelling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in just nine days to raise money for Parkinson’s UK, and hosting their own networking events to support the region’s growing business community.

Among their most notable work was filming the unveiling of the Blue Plaque honouring Jill Dando at Weston Town Council — Jill’s former newsroom at the Weston Mercury.

“We’ve made invaluable connections, and many of those professional contacts have become genuine friends,” they said. “We want to create a space where businesses and entrepreneurs can come together, collaborate and grow.”

The event marks the continued expansion of River Axe Media’s networking initiative, aimed at strengthening Somerset’s business community and helping local companies connect with new opportunities.
