Truth Gondwe, 28, inspired by Jill Dando and the Good News movement, is now studying Journalism at the Malawi Institute of Journalism in Blantyre, southern Malawi in Africa.
Truth said: “As I embark on my degree programme, I’m excited to build on the skills and principles you instilled in me. You will always have my appreciation — thank you for believing in me.”
His love for stories and journalism was ignited when he first attended the week long training course with Limbikira Foundation in Mzimba in 2019, facilitated by the Jill Dando News initiative which originates from Jill Dando's home town, Worle, Weston-Super-Mare, UK.
Sarah O'Gorman, a UK teacher at Priory Community School who has supported the Jill Dando News journey since its inception, was responsible for starting the project in Malawi where she helps run charity Limbikira Foundation.
The course was led by Malawian reporter Leonard Masauli of Malawi News Agency and contributor to The Guardian UK, Fair Planet and El Pains in Spain with over eight years experience in the profession.

"This guy has really pushed the dream. So encouraging", said Masauli, who was also trained at Malawi Institute of Journalism.
Talking of the impact of the programme, O'Gorman commented:
"We are now seeing the ripple effect of this powerful project reach into Malawi. The good news model we have works worldwide and Truth is testament to what is possible - we wish him every success and hope other young Malawians will follow suit."
A further 10 students were trained successful by Masauli as part of the Jill Dando News programme in 2023 and journalists continue to research and submit stories to be published on the Good News Post.
