World’s Oldest Llama Ever Spends His Life Cheering Up Kids With Chronic Conditions

By Jill Dando News
Whitetop, from North Carolina, USA, is officially the oldest living llama in captivity and oldest llama in captivity ever at 27 years and 250 days old.
Whitetop, whose full name is Dove Oaks Whitetop, joined the Victory Junction camp family in February of 2006.

Located on 84 acres in Randleman, North Carolina, Victory Junction is a “year-round camp facility for children with serious illness and chronic medical conditions.”
The camp was founded by race car driver Kyle Petty and his family in honor of his son Adam.
It provides “life changing camp experiences that are exciting, fun, and empowering, in a medically safe environment, always free of charge.”
Whitetop is in good company at Victory Junction. Nine horses, two goats, two rabbits, two miniature donkeys, and a miniature highland cow make up the family of barn residents.

Whitetop is an exception in more ways than one. Most llamas are known for spitting at humans, but not Whitetop. The team says he only spits at pasture mates on the occasion he wants food.
His personality is “relaxed, sweet, and empathetic” according to the Victory Junction team. He “loves interacting with campers and getting pets!”
Starting each day with a breakfast of hay, grain, and supplements he then spends time in the pasture with his pals: miniature donkeys, Jed and Jethro, and miniature highland cow, GusGus.

During camp days, Whitetop spends his time being doted on, groomed, loved and photographed by campers. It is no secret that he adores a good selfie moment!
The team shares that the secret to Whitetop’s longevity is “camper interactions, a balanced diet, good pasture mates, and great vet care.”
The Victory Junction team plans to celebrate Whitetop’s record-breaking achievement with a special gathering and bucket of his favorite food: “dry, not wet llama feed mixed with senior horse feed and Probios in his special bucket.”
