Schools Invited to Share Positive Stories Through Free National PR Platform

In an era where educational challenges often dominate headlines, a groundbreaking initiative is turning the spotlight on the remarkable achievements happening in classrooms across the United Kingdom.

The Good News Post, a pioneering student-led platform, is inviting schools and multi-academy trusts to share their inspiring stories free of charge—offering a beacon of positivity in the educational landscape.

With mental health statistics rising in schools across the country—and teachers feeling the strain—award-winning journalist and founder Shane Dean is on a mission to change the narrative.

Shane is also a motivational speaker on tour with his Good News Tonic happiness cocktail to cheer up audiences.

The news outlet is a mix of journalism, positive news and wellbeing.

“Every day, schools are transforming lives—but these uplifting stories often go unnoticed,” he explains. “We’re here to amplify the incredible work happening in our educational institutions.”

A Journey of Inspiration

What began in 2011 as a small student-led newsroom in a headteacher’s office has blossomed into a national movement, empowering young people through real-life journalism.

The platform gained early momentum with support from Sir Richard Branson, who provided a motivational video to 1,300 students at Priory School, and continued to grow with the involvement of schools like Worle School in Somerset—where Jill Dando began her journalism career aged 13.

Landmark Achievements

The Good News Post has already made significant impacts on the educational journalism landscape:

• Secured the first-ever student interview with Prime Minister Boris Johnson inside 10 Downing Street

• Conducted exclusive interviews with the Speaker of the House of Commons and other national figures

• Published thousands of positive stories by and about young people, providing real-world journalism experience

An Open Invitation to Schools

The platform welcomes stories of all sizes—from individual student achievements to innovative school projects.

”No story is too small,” Shane adds. “If it matters to a school community, it matters to The Good News Post.”

In a media landscape often criticized for negativity, this initiative offers a refreshing alternative. By sharing positive narratives, schools can:

• Boost morale among students, staff, and parents

• Showcase innovative educational approaches

• Provide students with real-world media experience

• Challenge negative perceptions about education
