A new partnership between Age UK East Sussex and the Charles Hunt Centre in Hailsham aims to strengthen support for older people while maintaining the centre’s existing services and community feel.

The Charles Hunt Centre is a long-running social hub for people aged over 55, offering lunches, activities and a place for local residents to meet and socialise.

It has been built through strong community involvement and remains an important part of life in Hailsham.

Under the new arrangement, the centre will join Age UK East Sussex, giving it access to wider county services such as information and advice, befriending schemes and specialist support.

There will be no immediate changes to daily services, and the centre will continue to run its usual activities.

Centre Manager Sally Stanton said the partnership would help secure the future of the service while building on its current strengths.

“We’re really proud of what the Charles Hunt Centre means to our members and the local community. This partnership is an exciting step forward and will help ensure the centre continues to thrive. It allows us to build on what we already do so well – providing friendship, support and a welcoming place for people over 55 – while opening up new opportunities for the future.”

Steve Hare, Chief Executive of Age UK East Sussex, said the centre is a strong example of community-led support.

“The Charles Hunt Centre is a fantastic example of a community-led service that makes a real difference to people’s lives, locally. We are delighted to welcome the centre into Age UK East Sussex. By working together, we can strengthen support in and around Hailsham and ensure the centre continues to provide vital services for many years to come.”

The centre will continue its regular programme, including weekday lunches, social activities, and services such as foot care and hearing support clinics.

The partnership is designed to help older residents stay connected, active and independent, while ensuring local services remain sustainable in the long term.
