New ‘Ready for Parenthood’ Campaign Launched Across York and North Yorkshire
By Community Correspondent
A new regional campaign, “Ready for Parenthood,” has been launched across York and North Yorkshire to support women from pre-conception through to early parenthood.
The initiative brings together City of York Council, North Yorkshire Council, York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and YorSexualHealth.
It focuses on three key areas: healthy lifestyle choices, staying active, and supporting emotional wellbeing.
Over the coming months, the campaign will share videos, real-life stories, and expert advice from midwives, health professionals and local services. The first videos, featuring midwives, are already available and offer practical, supportive guidance.

The campaign aims to give women clear, accessible information to help improve pregnancy experiences and outcomes, while encouraging confidence and informed decision-making.
Anita Dobson said:
“Thinking about having a baby is an exciting moment… Ready for Parenthood is about reassurance – offering small steps that can make a real difference.
“We’re proud to be part of a partnership that ensures every family can enjoy the very best start.”

Dr Gill Kelly said:
“Women deserve clear and compassionate information… This campaign brings services together so families know where to turn.
“It’s about giving people the tools.”

Sascha Wells-Munro said:
“Our midwives see first-hand how important early support can be…
“We’re delighted to contribute to a campaign that puts practical, evidence-based advice into the hands of families.”

Alison Chorlton added:
“Being ready for parenthood also means planning ahead… Many contraception options are safe straight after delivery.
“Talk to your midwife, GP or sexual health service to plan what’s right for you.”
The campaign also highlights free local support services, including York Health Trainers and North Yorkshire’s Healthy You programme, offering help with healthy eating, physical activity, stopping smoking, and emotional wellbeing.
By bringing together councils, NHS services and specialist support, the initiative aims to ensure families across the region can access trusted advice and early support—helping give every child the best possible start in life.
