Raising a family is no small task—especially for single parents, who often juggle work, childcare, and the emotional weight of doing it all alone.

Now, single mums and dads in Fordingbridge have a new space to connect, share, and feel supported in their journey.

The Fordingbridge Salvation Army has teamed up with national charity Gingerbread to launch a Single Parents’ Support Group. The group meets on the second Sunday of each month from 2:00–3:30 PM at the Salvation Army Hall on Roundhill.

Run by single parents for single parents, the group offers a relaxed, child-friendly environment where attendees can talk openly, build friendships, and access useful resources.

Best of all—it’s free.

Why join?

  • Connect with others who "get it"
  • A supportive, judgment-free space
  • Fun, informal, and child-inclusive
  • Practical advice and encouragement

The sessions are led by a Salvation Army volunteer who is also Gingerbread-trained.

Gingerbread is a leading UK charity supporting single-parent families with the goal that all single parents and their children can thrive.

Mike French, leader of the Fordingbridge Salvation Army, shared:
“We heard from single parents who needed a space to connect, share their struggles, and know they’re not alone. This group offers support and celebrates the incredible work single parents do every day.”

Parents are welcome to come with or without their children, who can enjoy toys, crafts, and garden play. The space is designed to be both nurturing and inclusive.

This initiative is part of a wider effort by The Salvation Army to reduce isolation and foster belonging. Other free community events include a “Tea and Play Café” on Monday and Friday mornings for families with preschoolers.
