New Workshop in North Somerset Helps Organisations “Find Their Voice” in Crowded World of Communication
By Business Editor
A new half-day workshop in North Somerset aims to help local organisations cut through the noise and tell their stories more effectively — without the need for expensive agencies or complex marketing strategies.
The session, titled “Your Story. Shape It. Get Seen.”, will take place at the Campus Conference and Community Centre near Worle and is designed for business leaders, charities, public sector teams, and community organisations who want to improve how they communicate with the public.

The workshop is led by award-winning journalist Shane Dean, who has spent 30 years working across national and regional media, and is the founder of storytelling organisation The Purple Sheep.
Shane says many organisations are sitting on powerful stories but fail to recognise them.
“In my experience, most organisations don’t have a storytelling problem — they have a visibility problem,” he said. “The reality is, the stories are already there. The challenge is knowing how to find them and shape them in a way that people actually connect with.”
The workshop will focus on practical storytelling techniques, including how to identify meaningful narratives within everyday work, how to communicate them to different audiences, and how to create content without relying on external agencies.
Participants will also explore how simple tools, including smartphone photography, can be used to strengthen communication and engagement.
Shane’s approach through Purple Sheep is built on the idea of “standing out rather than blending in” — encouraging organisations to think creatively and differently about how they present themselves.
“The strongest stories often come from unexpected places,” he said. “It’s about seeing what others miss and turning that into something clear, human, and engaging.”
The training is aimed at a wide range of sectors, including SMEs, charities, education providers, and public sector organisations across North Somerset and beyond.
Organisers say the session is designed to be hands-on rather than theoretical, with participants developing their own organisational story during the workshop itself.
The event will include refreshments and networking opportunities, with tickets priced at £99 per person.
The workshop takes place on Friday 22nd May, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.More information is available via Eventbrite.
