One of Britain’s Best School House Competitions Celebrates 20 years with Thrilling Finale Before 1400 Students

One of Britain’s best school house competitions celebrated its 20th anniversary in spectacular style as Valley House was crowned Clevedon School’s 2026 House Champions before an audience of more than 1,400 students.


The dramatic finale saw the results revealed live in front of students ,staff and colourful mascots while North Somerset MP Sadik Al-Hassan joined the celebrations to present the championship trophy and congratulate the winning house.


The year-long House Championship brings together students aged 11 to 18 in a packed programme of academic, sporting, creative and fun challenges, encouraging teamwork, leadership, resilience and school pride.


This year’s competitions included everything from darts and Battle of the Bands to a television-style cookery competition, fine art, quizzes and sporting contests, with students collecting valuable House Points throughout the year.

Clevedon School students have released their fourth original Spotify single, Spotlight, recorded on-site by 11 young musicians.


Fiona Wood, Head of Valley House who were the winners of the House Championship, said: 

“It’s been another fantastic year of healthy competition between the houses. The enthusiasm from students has been incredible, and I’m delighted to congratulate Valley House on becoming our 2026 champions.”

Headteacher Jim Smith said: 

“Our aim is to make these regular events outstanding in every way. The take-up and enthusiasm from students is off the scale. The House Championship gives every young person the opportunity to shine, whether academically, creatively or through sport, and it was a wonderful way to end the school year.”

MP Sadik Al-Hassan said:

"It was a real privilege to present the prize for this year's House Championship at Clevedon School, especially as the competition celebrates its 20th anniversary. I was also delighted to see the premiere of the 2026 House Championship film, with teachers putting their own creative spin on Star Wars.
"This is just one brilliant example of the enthusiasm and community spirit that make the school so special. I know students look forward to seeing the film each year. Clevedon School exemplifies excellence in teaching and learning while giving every student the opportunity to thrive in the areas where they excel.
"Its outstanding extracurricular programme and holistic approach to education, culminating in the House Championship, are a testament to the school's commitment to helping young people grow in confidence, creativity and character.
