Students from Priory, Poppy, Rosie and Isabella, visited Heron’s Moor Academy to deliver an engaging journalism workshop for younger pupils.
The action-packed afternoon began with a presentation from the visiting students, who shared tips on what makes a good journalist.
To break the ice, pupils took part in a game where they interviewed a partner to discover five interesting facts about them.
Afterwards, the group moved on to planning and creating their own World Book Day–inspired stories. Pupils then used computers to write up their articles, while Poppy, Isabella and Rosie offered support, guidance and creative ideas.
The session, which ran from 2–4pm, flew by as students immersed themselves in storytelling and journalism.
Georgie Tinker, Headmistress of Heron’s Moor, praised the event, saying:
“What a fantastic couple of hours being part of Priory learners leading a quality workshop in our newsroom. I loved watching it all take place with such a buzz.”
The Priory students also reflected on the experience.
Isabella described it as “a fun-filled afternoon” and said she was excited to return.
Poppy added: “It was a fun-filled couple of hours and I loved watching the kids make their own World Book Day themed stories.”
Overall, the workshop successfully inspired a new generation of young journalists while giving Priory students the chance to lead and share their skills.
