Pierre Schoeman has been announced as a new ambassador for Wooden Spoon, the rugby charity dedicated to helping children and young people across the UK.

The Scotland international, who is well known among supporters for his enthusiasm, determination and commitment both on and off the field, will support the charity’s mission to help children play, learn, feel safe and reach their potential.

Speaking at Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium, Schoeman said rugby had played a huge role in shaping his life.

“Rugby has given me so much – a home, a family and a community that welcomes everyone,” he said.
“With Scotland competing strongly in this year’s Six Nations Championship and the fans creating an incredible atmosphere every week, you can really feel how important the sport is to people.
“I’m proud to support Wooden Spoon because every child deserves the chance to feel included and to achieve their full potential.”

The charity supports projects across the UK, including accessible playgrounds, specialist equipment, community programmes and inclusive facilities for children who are disadvantaged or living with disabilities.

Since it was founded in 1983, Wooden Spoon has helped more than 1.5 million children and young people.

Chief executive Sarah Webb said Schoeman was a perfect fit for the organisation.

“Pierre truly reflects the values of rugby – heart, humility and a strong sense of community,” she said.
“We are delighted to welcome him as an ambassador and look forward to working with him to create more opportunities for children who need support the most.”

Schoeman’s first appearance as ambassador was filmed inside the stadium’s sensory room, one of many projects funded by Wooden Spoon across the country.

The space provides a calm and inclusive environment for neurodivergent supporters and families attending matches.

Over the coming year, Schoeman will help promote the charity’s work, support fundraising efforts and highlight the positive impact its projects have on children throughout the UK.
