Students at The King Alfred School Academy recently gathered for a special event led by Mrs Omoronyia, who had organised an afternoon dedicated to two national competitions: the Cyber Girls Challenge and the Bebras Coding Challenge.

Five students began the day by tackling the Year 8 Cyber Girls Challenge.
Among them were Lexie and Isla, who threw themselves into the tasks with determination.

The challenges were tough, but the group worked together, sharing ideas and encouraging one another when things became difficult.

Afterwards, both girls spoke proudly about what they had achieved. They explained that teamwork and resilience were essential, and Isla offered a piece of advice for anyone thinking of giving it a go in the future: “You can always try again.”

While the Cyber Girls team worked through their puzzles, eleven other students were deep in concentration as they took on the Bebras Coding Challenge.

This national competition tests logical thinking through a series of timed problems, and TKASA students competed across two age categories: Junior and Intermediate.

In the Junior group, four students represented the school with impressive effort.
Samuel emerged as the highest scorer, earning a Gold certificate with a remarkable 138 points. Close behind were Kenzie with 83, and Ephrin with 73.

A reporter at the TKASA newsroom reflected on the experience afterwards, admitting that the questions were very hard but saying he felt proud to have completed the challenge.

His advice was simple: “Answer lots of questions and work hard.

The Intermediate category saw seven students pushing themselves through even trickier problems. Isaac led the group with a Gold-level score of 106, followed by Rafi, who achieved a Distinction with 79 points. Jacob, Freddie, Ayla, Leo and Rupert all produced strong performances too, showing real perseverance.

Mrs Omoronyia congratulated every participant for their hard work, resilience and positive attitude.
