Valentine's May be Over, But Love Still Saves Lives
By Community Correspondent
While many people spent Valentine’s Day exchanging cards and booking dinner tables, Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) chose to highlight a different kind of love — the kind that means getting more time with the people who matter most.
Steve, a father from Gloucestershire, is alive today because of the swift response from GWAAC’s critical care team after a sudden, life-threatening emergency.
A new short film released this week shows what survival really looks like — a pint shared in a local pub, playful banter between father and son, and the quiet but powerful words, “I love you.”
Around two-thirds of the patients treated by GWAAC are men — often dads, sons, partners and friends.
But every patient represents far more than one person. Behind each emergency is a network of loved ones whose lives are deeply affected.

The charity’s latest film is a reminder that love isn’t only about romance. It’s found in everyday moments, shared laughter, and simply being there.
For Steve and his family, those moments are still possible thanks to the generosity of supporters who fund GWAAC’s missions.
His story is just one example. Every time the crew is called out, every intervention they make, it can mean more birthdays, more conversations, and more time together for families across the region.
