Bike Maintenance Workshop Inspires More Students to Cycle (By Mark, Caleb and Bright, Year 9)

Clevedon School in North Somerset is hoping to encourage more students to cycle and become one of the few schools in North Somerset to actively support a growing bike community.

At the moment, fewer than 50 students regularly cycle to school, even though there are around 1,367 students and many of us live locally.

We think encouraging more young people to cycle could help reduce carbon emissions, improve fitness and make cycling safer by raising awareness of bike safety and better cycling facilities.

To help us learn more, we contacted Ross from Taylored Cycles in Bristol and asked if he could teach us some bike maintenance skills.

He agreed to come into school and train us.

The workshop was great fun, and Ross was an excellent bike mechanic and teacher. We worked towards our AQA Unit Award Scheme (UAS) Level 1 Bike Maintenance certificate and learnt how to carry out basic bike repairs and maintenance.

We are always looking for ways to encourage more people to cycle, and this workshop was the perfect start. Thank you, Ross!
